The journey begins with a ride to the valley station, where you’ll board Germany’s longest loop cable car. As you glide toward the summit, enjoy fascinating views of the city of Freiburg and the Rhine Valley, stretching all the way to the blue ribbon of the Vosges mountains.
The adventure continues underground with a tour through the museum mine. Enjoy an expert-led tour through the upper level of the visitor mine, including live machine demonstrations (compressed-air rock drill and overhead loader). Learn about the history, geology, and technology of the region. The tour includes a view into the 50-meter-deep transport shaft featuring mine locomotives and a technical collection.
After returning to the surface, we will bring you back to the city, having experienced the very best of Freiburg’s “house mountain”.

The undisputed highlight of this tour is the breathtaking view from the Cathedral Tower over Freiburg’s Old Town and far into the impressive surrounding landscape. From the tower gallery, at the transition to the world-famous open-work spire, you can see across the Kaiserstuhl and the Rhine Valley all the way to the Vosges Mountains in France. On the other side, you can overlook the Dreisam Valley and the Black Forest.
But it isn’t just the view that inspires visitors. During the ascent of 209 steps to the watchman’s cabin (Türmerstube), you will experience the construction of the massive fir-wood bell frame. Started in 1290, it remains 80% original. After another 56 steps, you reach the tower platform. For those who want to go even higher, the gallery awaits at a height of 70 meters. High, higher – the very top!
