Transitions in the age of biomedical AI
Make a Submission
General Process for all Contribution Types
There are many ways to actively contribute towards an inspiring conference. These include proposing pre-conference courses (offering training for participants), workshops with interactive formats including several contributors (e.g. discussion panels or hackathons), regular abstract submissions for contributed talks and posters, and full-papers prior to the conference (as typical for the GMDS). In addition, we are planning a post-conference journal special issue based on your contributions (as typical for the ISCB).
All conference contributions can be submitted via the conference online submission system.
Follow the steps below to start your submission:
- Register / Log in: Create an account for the submission system first or log in with your existing credentials (applies for previous GMDS conference attendees)
- Click on Start: Select “Submission System”
- Topic: Assign your contribution to one of the main topics (choose from our conference topics)
- Submission type: Select the contribution type you want to submit
- Follow the specific instructions for the different contribution types as outlined in the respective sections below
Specifics for Pre-Conference Courses
About pre-conference courses
Pre-conference courses (or “Tutorials”) are meant to offer diverse training opportunities to participants, with an emphasis on interactive hands-on exercises. Proposals should appeal to a wide range of participants and align with our conference topics. We particularly encourage cross-cutting proposals that are attractive for participants from across biostatistics, bioinformatics, epidemiology, as well as medical informatics, and enable participants to contribute to the current transitions in our fields due to biomedical AI. In line with the overall conference language, the pre-conference courses must be held in English.

Guideline for pre-conference course submission
Please submit your proposal for a pre-conference course through our online submission system (see button above) with the following details ready:
- Course instructor(s) name(s), position(s), affiliation(s) and e-mail address
- Main conference topic the course is related to (choose one)
- Title of the course
- Keywords further describing the proposal’s field and content (optional, free-text)
- Content summary describing general outline and main topics, learning objectives, tentative structure, why the course would be appealing to ISCB GMDS 2026 attendees from different fields and requirements for both attendees’ expertise and technical equipment (at least 50 words per paragraph).
- Logistical summary indicating course duration (full day = 8hrs or half day = 4hrs), technical level (low, moderate, high), upper limit for number of participants, and any technical requirements of conference infrastructure
- Important note: Both proposal content summary and logistical summary as outlined above are to be provided as text in an input field with the respective paragraph titles as guidance (<500 words in total).
Pre-conference course incentives
If at least 20 participants register, up to two instructors per pre-conference course will receive coverage of the main conference fee and a contribution towards accommodation (€200), and travel costs (€100 domestic, €200 European, €500 intercontinental). Please note that we reserve the right to cancel accepted pre-conference courses, if the final number of registered participants is too low.
Specifics for Workshops
About workshops
The Workshop format allows to propose a program for a whole 90-minute time slot (or even two subsequent time slots). This can comprise several presenters, organized by the workshop proposer, or formats such as podium discussions, hackathons, or similar. The aim is to facilitate a lively exchange between organizers, presenters and conference participants on selected areas within our conference topics. In line with the overall conference language, all workshops must be held in English, even if intended as a platform for a national group, to make them accessible for all conference participants. The line-up of workshop contributors must be finalized before submitting proposals for workshops to ensure a fair and competitive evaluation. Upon workshop acceptance, all workshop contributors will register their individual contributions in the conference system. The total number of workshops is limited.

Guideline for workshop submission
Please submit your proposal for a workshop through our online submission system (see button above) with the following details ready:
- Workshop organizer+ contributor(s) name(s), position(s), affiliation(s) and e-mail address(es).
- Main conference topic the workshop is related to (choose one)
- Title of the workshop
- Keywords further describing the proposal’s scientific field and content (optional, free-text)
- Content summary describing general outline and objectives, format (e.g. hackathon, panel discussion) of the workshop, tentative structure of the workshop, and why the workshop would be appealing to ISCB GMDS 2026 attendees from different disciplines
- Logistical summary indicating workshop duration (e.g. 90/180 min), moderator and proposed speakers, methods used for audience engagement, any technical requirements in conference infrastructure necessary for hosting the workshop, and if applicable: information on which host organization / entity supports this workshop (e.g. a GMDS working group, a third-party funded scientific project etc.; otherwise: enter none)
- Both proposal content summary and logistical summary as outlined above are to be provided as text in an input field with the respective paragraph titles as guidance (<500 words in total).
Workshop incentives
Please note that there is no reimbursement of costs or waiving of fees for organizers and contributors to workshops. Yet, we anticipate the costs for some workshops to be covered externally, e.g., by third-party-funded scientific projects that use the conference as a platform for a planned workshop.
